Halbton exhibits and sells black and white photography in limited editions. Every print is made in the darkroom on baryta paper, checked by hand, signed and numbered.

A picture loses nothing when you take the colour away. It gains time.
We show photography that belongs on paper. Work that has survived an exposure, a contact sheet and a selection made over months — and that is more as a print than it ever is on a screen. Nine positions, none of them arbitrary.
Every print is a gelatin silver print on baryta paper, most of them made in our own darkroom. We number, sign and document each one. What leaves the gallery is framed to archival standard and will outlast your ownership of it.
Every picture was its own opposite first.

Wall text
Every print hangs on a centre line of 145 centimetres — the way we would hang it for you as well. The labels give technique, sheet size, edition and price. Anyone who wants to look at a work for longer is given a chair.

From the first look to your wall.
01Editions
Limited prints from our holdings, signed and numbered, with a certificate of authenticity and full edition documentation.
02Collecting
Building and extending a collection over years. We will also say when a work does not sit well with what you already own.
03Framing
Museum framing with acid-free mounts and anti-reflective museum glass. We will install on site if you want us to.
04Loans
Work for offices, practices and foyers, rotating or permanent, insured and hung by us.
05 — Gallery
Two rooms, one archive, one darkroom.
The gallery occupies a former weaving mill in the west of Leipzig. The front room carries the current exhibition, the back room the holdings: cabinets full of prints you are welcome to go through with gloves on and without hurrying.
The darkroom is in the basement. Most of our editions are made there, on an enlarger from 1978 — which is why we can talk about paper grades and not only about edition sizes.

Three steps, no hurry.
Reserve
A work can be held for fourteen days with no obligation. During that time you live with the framed print at home, with nothing paid up front.
Take it home
If the picture stays, you receive the certificate, the edition record and an invoice. We deliver, hang and align it — ourselves within 200 kilometres.

Which picture ends upon your wall?
Tell us what you are looking for, how much wall you have and what range you have in mind. We answer within two working days, and we say so honestly when the right work is not in our holdings.
